Right-of-Way Clearing in San Antonio, TX

Right-of-Way Clearing · San Antonio, TX

Brush and trees cleared off utility and pipeline easements

Right-of-way clearing opens a corridor so a pipe, a road or a ditch can go in. We clear brush, cedar, mesquite, huisache and trees off utility, pipeline, road and drainage rights-of-way and easements. On a new easement, the clearing comes before the trench for water and sewer lines. We do right-of-way clearing across San Antonio and about 50 miles around the city.

Global Contractors LLC has done commercial and government sitework since 2006. On a right of way, our forestry mulcher grinds the brush where it stands. Excavators pull the stumps where a line or a road goes in, and dump truck hauling takes the rest. Call (253) 606-9497 and we will come look at the corridor first.

What We Handle

  • Brush, cedar, mesquite, huisache and trees cleared off rights-of-way and easements
  • Utility and pipeline easements opened ahead of the trench
  • Road and drainage corridors cleared to the stakes on the plan

  • Skid steers with mulching heads for tight spots and short runs
  • Stumps and roots pulled with excavators where a line or a road goes in
  • Debris that has to leave hauled off by dump truck
  • Free estimates, with a written price after we look at the corridor

How We Clear a Utility or Pipeline Right of Way

A right-of-way job starts with the paperwork. Bring the easement document or the plan sheet, and we go over the corridor with you on site. The stakes or the plan set the edges, and the machines stay inside them.

The wheeled forestry mulcher works down the corridor first. Its drum head grinds brush, cedar, mesquite and small trees where they stand, and the chips stay on the ground. Skid steers with mulching heads take the tight spots. This is forestry mulching on a long, narrow strip.

Where a trench or a road goes in, the stumps come out too. A root ball left in the ground gets in the way of a trench and settles under a roadbed. Our excavators pull stumps and roots along that line. Clearing a whole lot or tract is land clearing work.

Do You Need to Call 811 Before Clearing an Easement?

Texas law says a permit, the owner's permission or an easement does not excuse the one-call notice. The same law counts mechanized digging that disturbs soil 16 inches or deeper as excavation. Pulling stumps out of an easement can reach that depth. So before a stump comes out, a locate ticket goes in.

The notice goes in at least 48 hours before digging starts, not counting weekends and legal holidays. It cannot go in more than 14 days ahead. The law also has the one-call center warn that water and sewer lines may not get the notice. On a water or sewer easement, ask the water utility where its pipes already run.

Easement Clearing Rules Around San Antonio and the Hill Country

Bexar County Public Works controls all construction in county-maintained rights-of-way by permit. Its inspection section wants 24 hours' notice, with the permit number, before work starts. Comal County's Order 566 requires a permit for construction in a county road's right of way. It also makes the applicant dispose of trees and brush cleared there for a utility line.

The Texas A and M Forest Service says oak wilt can enter through any fresh oak wound. Wounds from cedar clearing count, and the service says to avoid wounding oaks from February through June. Inside San Antonio, the city's oak wilt ordinance wants cuts and wounds on oaks painted within 30 minutes. When oaks stand along a corridor, we plan the timing with you.

Texas Parks and Wildlife says golden-cheeked warblers nest only in central Texas mixed Ashe juniper and oak woodland. The birds come to Texas in March to nest and leave in July. If an easement crosses mature cedar and oak in a ravine, look into that before any cedar comes out.

How We Work

How a Job With Global Contractors Runs

From the first call to the final grade, here is how it goes.

1

You call

Call (253) 606-9497 and tell us what the site needs: a lot cleared, a house down, a pad built. We ask enough questions to know what machines the job takes.

2

We look at the site

We drive out and read the ground: access, slope, trees, utilities, what is standing and where the dirt can go. On a build we go through the plans with you.

3

You get a written estimate

The scope and the price go in writing, broken out so you can see each part of the job. Estimates are free, and so is the site visit.

4

We do the work

Permits and utility locates come first where they apply, including the Texas 811 call before anyone digs. Then the excavators, the trucks and the mulcher go to work.

5

The finish

Spoils get hauled off or spread on site, and the ground is graded before we pull off. We go over the finished job with you while the equipment is still there.

FAQ

Right-of-Way Clearing Questions, Answered

Common questions about right-of-way clearing across San Antonio and about 50 miles around the city. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (253) 606-9497

How much does right-of-way clearing cost?
The price follows the corridor. Its length, how thick the brush is and how big the stems are all count. Slope and rock move it too, along with tight access, the stumps pulled and the loads hauled off. We look at the corridor first, and the written estimate is free.
Do I need a permit to clear a right of way?
Construction in a county road's right of way needs a county permit in Bexar and Comal counties. Inside San Antonio and its ETJ, the city wants a tree affidavit or tree permit application before clearing starts. The ETJ reaches about 5 miles past the city limits. We can point you to the right office.
Can you clear an easement before the water or sewer line goes in?
Yes, the clearing comes first so the trench has open ground to follow. The mulcher clears the corridor, and the excavators pull stumps along the trench line. We also dig the trench and lay the pipe as underground utility work.
What happens to the brush and stumps?
The mulcher grinds brush and small trees where they stand, and the chips stay on the ground unless the permit says the brush has to go. Stumps pulled along a trench line and any logs go out by dump truck. Bexar County is a serious ozone nonattainment area, where TCEQ allows burning right-of-way brush only when no practical alternative exists. Its burning guide names mechanical chipping or mulching as one, and that is the route we take.
Will the brush grow back in the easement?
Cedar cut low stays gone, because Ashe juniper does not resprout from the stump. Mesquite and huisache sprout again from the base. Texas A and M range research says machine work on cedar needs a follow-up within a few years. Small cedar gets missed, and new seedlings come in.
