Not every job has the dirt it needs. A low spot has to come up, a pad has to be built, a driveway needs something hard under it. Fill dirt delivery covers all three. We haul the material in by the truckload and put it where you want it.
The materials do different jobs. Fill dirt is bulk dirt for raising ground and filling holes. Select fill is cleaner material that compacts well, so it goes under pads and slabs. Caliche and base pack down hard, which is why they end up on driveways, ranch roads and work pads. Gravel goes on top as the surface.
How the material lands matters as much as what it is. Loads can go in a pile where you point, or get spread with a skid steer as the trucks come in. Fill under a building pad goes down in lifts and gets compacted, which is site preparation work. Tell us where it goes and how deep, and we will figure the loads.
Digging makes spoils. A pond, a trench or a cut for a pad turns up more dirt than the hole takes back. Some of it gets spread on site where there is room. The rest leaves on our trucks.
Demolition fills trucks faster than anything else. A house comes down into a pile of wood, roofing, siding and slab. We sort it, load it and run it to a site that accepts that material. Clean concrete often rides on its own load, since some yards take it for crushing.
Brush, stumps and root balls off a clearing job load the same way. Wet dirt and green brush are heavy, so those loads hit their weight before the bed looks full. We plan the trips around that.
State law sets what a loaded truck may weigh. The Texas Transportation Code caps most trucks at 80,000 pounds gross. It also caps a single axle at 20,000 pounds and a tandem axle at 34,000. Those numbers decide how much material rides on each trip.
Bridges and county roads add a second layer. TxDOT analyzes bridges in Texas for load carrying capacity and posts a limit on the ones that need it. A county commissioners court can set a load limit on a county road too, with TxDOT's agreement. The signs go up before the limit takes effect. A posted bridge on a farm-to-market road can send a loaded truck miles out of the way.
Routing is part of the estimate for that reason. Our trucks run out of the yard in Pleasanton, up US-281 and I-37 toward San Antonio. From there they get onto FM and county roads at the end of the trip. Soft ground, a narrow gate or a low power line stops a load sooner than the highway does. We look at the access before we price the job.
